Job Description: Contract Visual Artist (Therapeutic Art Experiences)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a creative and compassionate Contract Artist to provide therapeutic art experiences for patients in a pediatric hospital setting. This role will primarily focus on facilitating art sessions that promote healing, creativity, and emotional expression among patients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provision of Therapeutic Art Experiences (85%):
a. Plan and lead therapeutic art sessions for patients, adhering to hospital guidelines and patient needs.
b. Create a safe and supportive environment that encourages self-expression and creativity.
c. Tailor art activities to different age groups, abilities, and medical conditions of patients.
d. Collaborate with hospital staff and caregivers to integrate therapeutic goals into art sessions.
2. Planning Ahead and Maintaining Supplies (5%):
a. Plan ahead to maintain a clean work environment and ensure all necessary art supplies are stocked.
b. Notify supervisor of any material needs in advance to ensure uninterrupted session flow.
3. Communication (5%):
a. Communicate effectively with hospital staff, caregivers, and volunteers regarding session schedules, patient progress, and any adjustments needed.
b. Provide updates on patient participation and engagement during art sessions.
4. Documentation (5%):
a. Document session plans, patient participation, and outcomes as required by hospital protocols.
b. Maintain records of patient artwork and the impact of therapeutic art sessions.
Organizational Interaction
Contacts With:
• Resident artist to discuss patient needs and project needs as well as materials (daily)
· Cook Children’s staff outside the Department: Discuss patient needs requiring collaboration between child life staff and other healthcare providers (Daily)
• Patients and Families: Provide art activities through artist in residence (Daily)
• Child life staff: Collaboration between child life staff (Daily)
• Vendors (outside agencies): Museums, art galleries, community partners and photographers (Weekly)

• Director of Family Support Services
Reports to This Position:
• Creative Visual Arts Volunteers (as a secondary supervisor as needed)
Requirements:
- Proven experience in facilitating therapeutic art activities, preferably in healthcare or pediatric setting.
- Proficient in various art mediums and techniques suitable for therapeutic purposes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with hospital staff and patients' families.
- Ability to adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of patients.
- Understanding of the therapeutic benefits of art and its application in healthcare settings.
- Reliable, organized, and compassionate with a commitment to patient-centered care.
Contract Details:
Contract Type: Contractual, with sessions scheduled regularly with a weekly schedule.
- Location: On-site at CCMC
- Hours: 40 hours per week on a set schedule
- Compensation: $25 per hour
- 12 month contract subject to review and renewal
