Fanny Hicks is a visual artist and baker whose work lives at the intersection of fi ne art, craft, and food. Like many artistic children of the 1990s, she grew up dreaming of becoming a Disney artist, spending countless hours drawing the Little Mermaid and imagining a creative life. She went on to study illustration at California College of the Arts in San Francisco, where she honed her technical skills and deepened her love of image-making. After college however, she found the illustration world difficult to enter—particularly while working more than full time to support herself. At the same time, a long-standing passion began to take center stage. Hicks had been decorating cakes since her early teens and regularly competed in her county fair, earning blue ribbons for her work. While attending college, Hicks found work in several bakeries, and when traditional illustration felt increasingly out of reach she redirected her creative energy fully into baking. Though painting took a back seat, her artistic practice never disappeared; it simply shifted mediums. When she did make art it was often paintings of the pastries she had created, reflecting how deeply her time in kitchens continued to inform her visual work. Though she had sculptural training, butter sculpting had never crossed her mind until she was invited to create a giant edible butter cow for Hayden Mills first annual Breadfest. The project became an unexpected and joyful convergence of her artistic worlds. Hicks continues to seek opportunities to create work that blurs the line between food and fine art. This lecture explores an unconventional creative path, from childhood dreams of painting and illustration to professional kitchens and, eventually, sculpting a giant edible cow out of butter. Fanny Hicks shares how her formal art training, years of cake decorating, and experience working as a baker unexpectedly converged in a single project that challenged traditional distinctions between fine art and craft. Through personal storytelling and visual examples, Hicks examines how creative skills migrate across mediums, how making a living can reshape an artistic practice, and why food can be a powerful—and playful—art material. The talk invites audiences to reconsider where art “belongs,” and how curiosity, adaptability, and craftsmanship can lead to surprising creative outcomes—even when butter is involved.

Veteran blacksmith Cody Livingston will teach the basics of the ancient craft on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Museum of History and Art, 211 N. Main St., Farmerville. Curators, Gabrielle Tolliver and paris cian in partnership with the ACLU-LA are seeking artists to submit work for the Rites to Rights: How to Keep Our Soul In America publication. We are seeking 2D Artworks, Poetry, Fashion Photography, Sound Scores, Short Films, and documentation of Installation. We would like to spotlight artworks that honor the theme(s) but not limited to: Aliveness, Memory, Archives/Preservation, the Body, Seen/Unseen, Care/Love, Liberated Futures, and Ceremony, to be highlighted in conversation with ACLU-LA Justice Lab Initiative.
Selected artists will receive an honorarium for their accepted artworks.

This will be an educational, comprehensive exhibition of different types of prints: linocuts, wood cuts, lithographs, monoprints, 3D printing, gel prints, screen printing, fabric printing, etching prints... For sculpted prints, save your print bodies to display with the finished artwork. The theme is open, but must be suitable for a family audience. This is not for regular prints of artwork/digital artwork, but to showcase the different types of physical artwork prints.
The West Valley Arts Council is seeking original artwork for an upcoming A Night To Remember World War 2-themed fundraiser at the Flite Historic Hangar in Goodyear, AZ. Chosen artwork will be on display and for sale throughout this exclusive ticketed evening event on Saturday, NOVEMBER 14, 2026. Artwork should represent the WW2 era from 1939-1945, using iconic themes of automobiles, airplanes, Rosie the Riveter, tasteful pin-up girls, wartime culture, and other social themes from that historic period. The art call is open to various 2D and 3D art media. Exhibited artwork will be displayed on easels or pedestals. Artwork must be suitable for a family audience.

The mission of the Waco-area Asian Leaders Network (ALN) is to build community amongst Asian and Asian Americans in the Greater Waco area through the celebration and preservation of Asian arts and culture, to identify, support, and uplift Asian leaders in our community, and to connect Asian leaders to resources to elevate their influence in positive ways.
I grew up in Washington State, where I was first introduced to clay in a High School art class. I was instantly drawn to the material but didn’t have a chance to touch clay again until my senior year of college. In 2019, a new pottery studio opened up nearby and I felt the pull to pursue the craft. Clay became a therapeutic challenge and a pure source of joy during a stressful season. Following a move to Dallas, Texas, I found myself focusing more and more on ceramics while working at a variety or local studios. Being in a community of supportive mentors and artists inspired the creation of Reach.
The Fort Worth After School Music Academy (FWASMA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing lives through the transformative power of music by providing affordable, high-quality music education and performance opportunities for students from all backgrounds throughout Fort Worth. Rooted in the historic legacy of the Dorothy Shaw Bell Choir, FWASMA offers vocal and instrumental instruction, private lessons, ensembles, summer programs, and mentorship opportunities designed to help students discover their voice, develop confidence, and achieve excellence both on and off the stage. I started sewing while I was pregnant with my second child as a way to cultivate a skill I could use to make items for my kids. At first it was simple, using mostly squares and rectangles and cotton fabric. Then I moved toward sewing bags for more challenging projects. And when I learned about digital artists and became friends with them, it was a whole new world. This crossover of artistry allowed me to create something even more unique. It went from being a different way to provide to something that has become my obsession.
CAFE is a 7-member traveling flute choir that enriches, enlightens, and inspires Central Arizona residents by presenting interactive concerts and educational programs that showcase the flute family's diverse instruments.
CAFE offers interactive concert programs that feature various musical styles: show tunes, patriotic, folk, jazz, oldies, pop, and classical. They demonstrate the instruments, including the 10-foot-long contrabass flute, and introduce each piece with interesting tidbits about the music and composer. Programs include a Q&A segment and celebrating audience members' birthdays by putting a birthday hat on the contrabass flute, decorating a music stand with a birthday cake, then playing a quirky arrangement of Happy Birthday. CAFE concerts offer a memorable, engaging experience for all ages. Since 2014, CAFE has performed over 280 concerts, including senior communities, libraries, art galleries, churches, Musical Instrument Museum, Desert Botanical Garden, Mesa Art Center, Stardust Theatre, Arizona Broadway Theatre, and Peoria Center for Performing Arts. With a music library of over 150 pieces, they customize their concert to fit the season, occassion, venue, and audience. CAFE brings their own sound system for vocal introductions of their music, and all they require is 7 chairs in the performance area for the acoustic concert. Are you looking for a fun, educational presentation? Consider "Fascinating Flutes," a 2-person demonstration of flutes worldwide through live performance, storytelling, videos, photos, and sound clips. Diverse flutes are sent around the room for listeners to examine up close in this 1-hour presentation. With or without a slide presentation, the audience sees, hears, and touches flutes made from silver, antler, clay, bamboo, and seashells and learns about their role in cultures around the world. I've been drawing since I was old enough to pick up a crayon and filled sketchbook after sketchbook till I found my artistic brain. Influenced by Ralph Steadman, Hunter S. Thompson, and Picasso among many others, I found my passion for art with PRISMA pencils and eventually evolved into acrylics. I've done 63 shows, festivals and pop ups. I try to grow as an artist every day and feel like I've still got alot to learn.

Zobo Lite was born from a familiar childhood drink reimagined for modern wellness. Growing up, hibiscus was a staple — bold, refreshing, and usually sweetened with sugar. But as I became more intentional about health, I wanted the same nostalgic flavor without the added sugar. That inspired Zobo Lite: an African-inspired hibiscus beverage crafted with real fruit, vibrant flavor, and no added sugar.

Easyside is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in the spring of 2022 by artists Adrianna Touch, Fernando Alvarez, & Corrie Thompson, along with musician & entrepreneur John Paul Thompson. In the summer of 2023, Easyside opened a multi-purpose facility to support underserved artists and the surrounding neighborhood of East Fort Worth. What began as a studio quickly grew to include a fresh produce pantry, educational events, and experimental exhibitions at SPUD Gallery and collaborating spaces. Easyside is 100% volunteer-run; it leans on a generous network of artists, educators, farmers, and organizers. Easyside sees itself as one of many necessary contributors doing the work of direct community support, creating a lasting home for artists that feeds the body and mind of the local neighborhood.
