About

Jana is a fifth generation Texan. Nature is the inspiration for her work, especially bodies of water and the surrounding landscapes, wildlife, and flowers. She is known best for her landscapes and florals but also enjoys creating the occasional portrait or still life. Her flower pieces are mostly from her gardens or places she has visited, and her landscapes are mostly scenes of real places from personal experiences. She feels as if she has both a personal and a spiritual connection to nature and hopes it is evident in her artwork. She works with acrylics, oil, and watercolor in the style of realism, but sometimes ventures from that with the use of bold arbitrary (unrealistic) colors and imagination. Jana's work is in several art collections in the U.S., including the Texas Collection of Braniff International in Dallas. She accepts commissions and has been commissioned for a portrait as far away as Canada.

Artist Statement

I live and work near my home town in Texas. My goal is to always capture a moment in time, of the transient nature of a body of water, the textures of a flower, or object, and in turn, take the viewer to that place or put them in the presence of that flower or object. Creating is a passion for me. I start every painting with a general vision, but I often have a serendipitous discovery that takes the finished painting somewhere that I had not planned initially. As an art major in college and then as high school art teacher for several years, I was exposed to a lot of master artists in Art History, along with the many art styles, techniques and mediums and those experiences continue to be a large influence on my work.
