Artist Statement
Books are beautiful.There is nothing like holding an old book in your hand, opening it up, and smelling the beautiful and nuanced aroma its pages emit. Unfortunately, In our digital age, the printed word could soon become obsolete. At the LetterLounge, we found a better way to use the books on their way to be recycled by making art out of them! We work with the Friends of the Dallas Public Library to help with their book sales, as well as make monetary donations to the library. We then hand select the books that are withdrawn to use in our art, thus saving them from destruction
The Letter Lounge combines a mix of the old and new to create our art. The old is our craft’s medium: we take old library books and turn them into letters, numbers and shapes. The new, on the other hand, is the way we craft them. We use the latest in oscillating saw technology to create our work. Our artists are thoroughly vetted and trained for months before their work is ready to appear in our booth ,sold and found a new home..
