About

Raised in a family that valued play just as much as deep, philosophical thought, I have been using art as a tool to capture the essence of situations, places, and problems for as long as I can remember; from sketching how gravity works at a young age to conceptually communicating how different people occupy different museum spaces in my graduate studies, I have turned toward the languages of art to invite others into my thinking. With an advanced M.Ed. in Arts in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, an M.A. in Early Childhood Education Policy from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an Ed.D. in Art and Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, I bring my artist-researcher background to bear in my art practice. I investigate the potentialities of different media, paying particular attention to how different media heighten different aspects of certain subject matter. I train my eye to not just see a subject, but to communicate what I feel and think about it as well. I see my art practice as a mind map of my thinking, learning, and observing in, of, and with the world.

Artist Statement

An early childhood art museum educationalist, I engage in, with, and through the arts to make meaning myself. I take inspiration from my work and research with young children, noting how much energy and language each singular mark communicates. I study phenomena from different perspectives and I consequently weave text, media, rough sketches, and fine detail work together to form composite reflections on certain subjects. Ultimately, my art acts as a mind map of my thinking, learning, and observing in, of, and with the world.
