About

Beth Naeyaert is a multidisciplinary artist working in painting, illustration, digital painting, and photography. Her artistic journey began with surreal illustration focused on themes of reflection, eventually evolving from reflections in the literal sense toward more personal and emotional forms of introspection. Her work blends portraiture, botanical imagery, and symbolic storytelling, creating spaces where figures, creatures, and familiar objects coexist in emotionally rich and subtly surreal environments. Inspired by literature, personal narrative, nostalgia, and the visual language of comfort and attachment, her practice moves fluidly between intimate portraiture, expressive floral works, and imaginative reinterpretations of everyday themes. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Naeyaert continues to create work rooted in memory, curiosity, and emotional connection, inviting viewers to find pieces of their own stories within her imagery.

Artist Statement

My work explores emotional attachment, comfort, and introspection through portraiture, symbolism, and surreal narrative imagery. Recurring figures and organic forms move between tenderness and unease, often situated in environments shaped by foliage, hybrid structures, and familiar domestic elements. A central thread in my practice is the way emotional states can be held, transformed, or displaced through imagery. Botanical and organic forms frequently function as emotional stand-ins, acting as both subject and container for internal experience. Many works emerge from periods of intense emotional processing, where imagined dialogue and unresolved feeling are translated into layered, accumulative compositions. Influenced by literature, nostalgic media, and speculative fiction, I draw from stories and symbols that linger beyond their original context. Some works reinterpret familiar characters through a grounded emotional lens, while others borrow from literary and surreal imagery to explore memory, identity, and attachment. Across my practice, I am interested in emotional translation rather than literal narrative, creating spaces where viewers can encounter their own associations and meanings.
