My journey as an artist began at a young age, with art lessons throughout childhood and formal training in college. My creative career has taken me in many directions while working with various mediums including calligraphy and brush lettering, watercolor illustration, block printing, digital graphic design and large public murals. However, oil painting has become the passion to which I dedicate most of my work. As a mother of young children, carving out time to paint during naps and between loads of laundry allows me to be fully present in an otherwise chaotic stage of life. The practice of putting brush to surface slows down time as I notice the significance and beauty found in everyday subtleties - the texture of a flower, the pigment of ripening fruit, light filtering through a cloudy sky - that I would otherwise miss. My work tends to be impressionistic as I seek to capture the mood of my subject, rather than accuracy, through the use of rich textures, dynamic strokes and whimsical colors.
