Kasku

Kasku is a self-taught Native artist who recently changed careers to pursue art full time. She works mostly with acrylic ink and paint. Her work has been shown in Illinois, Louisiana, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and is in private collections in Colorado and Virginia. Kasku started painting traditional Native forms in her mid 20s. She eventually explored adding color to the traditional red/black/white palette and then experimented with placing traditional forms in landscapes and abstract pieces. Right now she tends to use more intense, saturated colors although she occasionally creates neutral works that focus on capturing the essence of a subject using minimal strokes. She uses a tablet to create digital studies before she begins painting and will often create stencils to create extremely clean lines. Sometimes she creates prints from her digital studies. She also takes commissions for digital works of people and animals. Kasku is inspired by the stories she sees around her. Although she started out painting static, stylized forms, she strives to capture physical and emotional energy of people living their lives.
