Artist Statement
Frenemy (Kristopher Kotcher) is a self-taught artist whose roots in early graffiti culture continue to shape his bold, instinct-driven approach to illustration, murals, and tattooing. Raised on the energy of the streets and sharpened outside traditional art systems, his work thrives on raw linework, spontaneity, and a refusal to overthink. Frenemy builds a surreal, character-filled universe inspired by cartoons, punk attitude, and toy culture—where playful, weird, and slightly unhinged figures blur the line between humor and tension. His name reflects that push and pull, and so does the work: bright, chaotic, nostalgic, and a little off in the best way. At its core, his art is about tapping back into that uninhibited, make-it-up-as-you-go feeling—where rules don’t matter and imagination leads.
