I’m Kimberly Bernal, a Mexican American artist who creates vibrant Mexican folk art as well as whimsical, imaginative paintings. A sheltered childhood helped spark a big imagination, and I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember. I am inspired by artists like Frida Kahlo and Salvador Dalí, whose bold use of color and expressive vision influence the way I bring emotion, stories, and imagination to life. As an adult, I began to explore my roots, seeking a deeper connection, and found myself drawn to the tradition of Día de los Muertos, which is reflected in most of my work. Painting is essential to me; it’s how I feel, reflect, and share a sense of wonder and connection with the world and others.
