Artist Statement
As a mixed media artist, I am devoted to capturing the joy, spontaneity, and vivid inner worlds of children through realistic expressive portraiture. Childhood is a burst of energy unfiltered, imaginative, and wonderfully unpredictable and my work seeks to honor those fleeting moments that shape who we become.
I work with charcoal, soft pastel, modeling paste, and acrylic paint, each material chosen for its ability to mirror the layered nature of childhood emotion. Charcoal gives structure and grounding, allowing me to carve out delicate details and subtle expressions. Soft pastel adds warmth and vibrancy, echoing the innocence and bright curiosity children carry. Modeling paste introduces texture and physical dimension, reflecting the tactile, sensory way children move through the world. Acrylic paint layers everything with bold color and movement, bringing the portrait to life with energy and rhythm.
My belief is that portraits of children should do more than replicate likeness they should radiate the spirit behind the smile, the spark in the eyes, the quiet wonder or wild imagination of a moment. I strive to blend realism with expressive elements, so each piece feels alive, honest, and emotionally vivid.
Through my art, I hope to remind viewers of the magic found in early years: the laughter, the mischief, the boundless imagination, and the stories written in small gestures. Every portrait becomes a celebration of childhood’s beauty messy, joyful, full of color and a reminder of the playfulness we all carry within us.
