About

My name is Jan & welcome to Ay Up Duck Creations! You may be asking yourself "Where does that name come from?" Well I can explain. I am originally from the other side of the pond, from a city called Stoke-On-Trent in the UK, where everyone is greeted with an 'Ay up duck" and they make lots of pottery. Our family moved to Texas more than 20 years ago, now you can take the girl out of Stoke but you can't take the Stokey out of the girl and hence the name, a little nod to my homeland. I am one of those that if I see a little something-something that catches my eye my immediate thought is "I can make that I'm sure", and then I disappear down the crafting rabbit hole, sometimes for many, many hours. I have had many trials and errors before I get the successes and I have discovered that if I can't find just what I want I can "fake it 'til I make it", using painting techniques on items that I find at Dollar stores, thrift stores or estate sales. When our daughter and son-in-law announced their engagement we knew it would be a crafting extravaganza of a wedding. From hand painted fabric signs, handcrafted wood centerpieces and over 2000 handmade felt flowers. I learned a lot along the way and now I want to share my knowledge with you. If you want to try your hand at making felt flowers or other personalized gifts but think "I could never make that" then let me help you. What's the worst that can happen? waste a bit of felt or paint but learn something in the process. What's the best that can happen? Bring something beautiful into the world, put a smile in your heart and if its a gift for someone you can say " I made this just for you" and put a smile in their heart too.
